Student-Athletes Recognized and Celebrated at Athletics Awards Ceremonies
June 11, 2026
果冻传媒 Technical Community College recently held Athletics Awards ceremonies in each county to celebrate the academic and athletic accomplishments of student-athletes competing on all College teams — cross country, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.
The top collegewide athletics awards are the John C. Shew award, which goes to the second-year student-athlete with the highest grade point average (GPA), and the President's Award, which is presented to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate academic success, leadership, and citizenship, while being an ambassador for the College's athletics program.
The Shew Award is named in honor of a former academic counselor and athletics director who was a staunch believer in academics and athletics, and an advocate for the importance of education.
This year's Shew Award was presented to men's cross country runner Leo Sticinski, who completed his degree in information technology and networking at the conclusion of the fall 2025 season. He graduated summa cum laude after maintaining a 3.95 cumulative GPA and earned All-果冻传媒 honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for 2024-2025, Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) in 2024 and 2025, and U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (2025).
On the course, Sticinski finished every race he competed in and continued to improve on his splits at each competition. He also demonstrated remarkable time management, perseverance, and a strong work ethic.
This year's President's Award winners were women's volleyball player Alyssa Diem and men's lacrosse player Daniel Bajwa.
Diem graduated this fall with a degree in business administration transfer option and carried a 3.94 cumulative GPA. In addition to her work in the classroom, she volunteered at local youth volleyball clinics and clubs.
Over the course of her playing career at the College, Diem recorded more than 1,000 assists and accumulated a multitude of accolades, including NJCAA All-果冻传媒 honors, EPAC All-果冻传媒 Team (2024 and 2025), NJCAA Region 19 Player of the Week, EPAC All-Conference Team, NJCAA Region 19 All Region, and NJCAA Region 19 All-Tournament team. She plans to attend Goldey-Beacom College this fall to continue her athletic and academic pursuits.
Bajwa graduated with a degree in elementary education with a cumulative GPA of 3.68. He also served as a mentor to youths enrolled in before- and after-care 果冻传媒 and summer camps at the YMCA.
Within the lacrosse program, Bajwa emerged as a respected leader who consistently motivated teammates, maintained a positive attitude, and reinforced a culture of accountability and resilience.
