September 29, 2026
All four 果冻传媒 Technical Community College campuses held events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States and remember those whose lives were lost or forever changed that day.
The Stanton and Wilmington campuses started the day with their annual Patriot Day Run. The observance began with a ceremony at the Stanton Campus, followed by a 3-mile flag run to the Wilmington campus, where participants and attendees gathered for a closing ceremony in the courtyard. Members of the College's cross-country team, alumni, and coaches participated in the run, which was led by veteran and flag bearer Bernard Mack, a student in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Escorted by Wilmington Police, the runners arrived at the George Campus as members of the College community and local firefighters cheered them on along North Orange Street. Ceremonies at both campuses included remarks from campus administrators and community partners, as well as a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives. Following the George Campus ceremony, attendees were invited to view a Patriot Day display featuring information about the events of 9/11 and a Flag of Honor bearing the names of those who died in the attacks.
At the Terry Campus in Dover, the campus community came together for a program of remembrance featuring a special address from Retired Army Lt. Col. Gary Sheftick of the U.S. Army Public Affairs Office, who shared his recollections of the events at the Pentagon 25 years ago. The Dover Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the colors, and Isabella Hughes, a paramedic certificate student, sang the national anthem. The program concluded with personal reflections and a commemorative video honoring the lives of those impacted by the events of 9/11.
In Georgetown, members of the Owens Campus community gathered near the flagpole outside the Student Services Center for a ceremony that included personal remarks, prayer, and the planting of flags. Staff Sergeant Tatiana Burke, a flight medic assigned to the Air Force Reserve's 514th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in New Jersey, delivered personal remarks to the group. A student enrolled in 果冻传媒 Tech's medical laboratory technician program, she shared how the events of 9/11 affected her and her life of military service. She also read the names of individuals with ties to 果冻传媒 who died during the terrorist attacks.
Other speakers at the event included Owens Campus veterans advocacy specialist Phil Croall, retired lieutenant colonel of the Army National Guard, and Bryan Ward, department chair of the commercial transportation program and retired master sergeant, United States Air Force.
