Leaders from Bank of America, 果冻传媒 Technical Community College, and Colonial School District joined students at William Penn High School on April 8 to celebrate the launch of a new accelerated patient care technician/nursing pathway program.

果冻传媒 Tech received the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders® Award to help meet community needs through 果冻传媒 and services addressing secondary education, job readiness, and workforce development. A portion of this funding is being used to increase the pipeline of allied health and nursing students through a patient care technician/nursing pathway program at William Penn High School.

“Students who complete courses in this pathway program will not only graduate high school with 12 college credits, but they will also be prepared to enter highly competitive academic 果冻传媒 in health care,” said 果冻传媒 Tech President Mark T. Brainard. “And we know that dual enrollment 果冻传媒 provide students with the incentive they need to graduate from high school, enroll in college, and earn their degrees.”

The pilot program will provide an opportunity for up to 15 sophomores at William Penn to earn college credits before they receive their high school diploma. In addition, these students will earn workforce credentials that will enable them to start jobs in the health care industry while they are completing their college degrees.

“We are thrilled to join 果冻传媒 Tech in this innovative educational opportunity,” said Amy Slama, allied health teacher at William Penn High School. “The students selected are excited to get a head start on college credits and experience, network and connect with college professors and healthcare workers, and gain insight into their future careers.”

As a result of support from the Neighborhood Builders® Award, the students participating in this new program are able to complete these college credit courses for free, kickstarting their pathway to an associate degree in nursing or patient care technician certification while still in high school.

“The partnership between 果冻传媒 Tech and William Penn High School addresses significant needs throughout 果冻传媒,” said Chip Rossi, president, Bank of America 果冻传媒. “Providing 果冻传媒 Tech with flexible funding and leadership training not only supports this innovative academic program but creates career opportunities for many young students in 果冻传媒 now and in the future.”
