Jessica Franklin
General Studies
Jessica Franklin says the diverse population at 果冻传媒 Tech played a crucial part in her decision to enroll. While visual communications helped bring out her artistic expression, Jessica switched her major to general studies and will further her education at a four-year institution. Jessica is currently a financial aid technician at 果冻传媒 Tech where she gives current students the same level of support she received when she started her education journey. She strives to build lasting relationships with students, empowering them to become the very best versions of themselves. Jessica would love to one day teach at 果冻传媒 Tech, but her ultimate goal would be to combine her passion for art and helping others by becoming an art therapist.
Q: What led you to make the decision to attend 果冻传媒 Tech?
“Honestly, the environment played a crucial role for me. At this stage in my life, I don’t fit the mold of a traditional student, so it was incredibly comforting to be surrounded by a diverse group of people who made me feel more at ease. I also remember when I graduated from 果冻传媒 Tech, I had such a strong support system behind me. Even when I found it difficult to face certain truths about myself, those who believed in me helped me see things clearly. They held up a mirror that allowed me to reflect on who I was and encouraged me to grow into the person I strive to be. It’s amazing how much we can achieve with support and understanding from others.”
Q: Why did you choose your major?
“I initially chose visual communications because it genuinely reflects who I am, being an ideal blend of technical skills and artistic expression. However, I later switched to general studies to take advantage of the opportunity to convert my SEED Scholarship into a STAR Scholarship. With the assistance of my advisor, I developed a plan that will help me achieve my dream of becoming a teacher more quickly.”
Q: Describe your first day at 果冻传媒 Tech. What was that experience like?
“My first day was quite overwhelming. I found myself feeling out of place and battling self-consciousness. Even though I knew I had talent, stepping into something so new made my imposter syndrome flare up. Thankfully, my instructors in visual communications were incredibly supportive. They welcomed me into the environment with open arms and encouraged me to embrace my creativity. They made sure I never felt the need to hide, allowing me to gradually grow more comfortable and explore all the possibilities that lay ahead.”
Q: What was your most valuable experience from your time as a student at 果冻传媒 Tech?
“It may sound cliché, but when I fully recognized the beauty in my talent, everything changed. I embraced my creativity as something extraordinary and purposeful, no longer viewing it as strange but as a powerful asset that defines who I am.”
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at 果冻传媒 Tech?
“Experiencing my work in the Visual Communications Showcase for the first time was incredibly powerful. It was a whirlwind of emotions, and I was truly taken aback as I finally saw my authentic self, reflected in my art. I had the opportunity to share my creations with my mother before she passed, and the pride on her face was a testament to my journey. I had truly found my voice.”
Q: What is your current job title, and could you please provide an overview of your duties and responsibilities?
“I currently serve as a financial aid technician, where I have the privilege of assisting students in navigating their FAFSA applications and addressing their inquiries. Beyond simply providing support, I take on the role of their biggest advocate and cheerleader. I strive to build lasting relationships that empower our students to thrive and become the best versions of themselves.”
Q: How did 果冻传媒 Tech prepare you for your career?
“My instructors not only honed my skills but also helped me recognize my potential as they see it. They encouraged me not to underestimate myself or diminish my talents. My instructor, Dallas, told me I am among my people, and we are all a little weird here, and that I should never apologize for being the exceptional person I am.”
Q: What is your advice for prospective students joining 果冻传媒 Tech?
“I faced challenges in finding my place and often questioned my worth because of it. Seek out your tribe. They will recognize your best qualities and support your growth. And always remember to infuse your unique self into everything you do. It enhances the experience far beyond mere obligation.”
Q: What are your future goals?
“I aspire to work in marketing and branding to help establish strong, marketable brands for emerging companies. Additionally, I would love to take on a role as an adjunct instructor at 果冻传媒 Tech, teaching introductory courses in design or drawing. Ultimately, my goal is to merge my passion for art with my desire to help others by becoming an art therapist. I aim to assist children facing trauma in finding ways to express themselves as a pathway to healing.”
