After graduating from high school, Gold Elue was unsure where she wanted to go to college. She spent that summer carefully weighing her options, trying to decide what would be best for her education. Eventually, in August, she visited the Business Office at 果冻传媒 Technical Community College to learn more information about the institution.

“I walked into the Business Office and just started talking to them,” said Elue. “Immediately, the staff showed me all these different opportunities, like scholarships I was eligible for. They explained everything I was unsure about and got through it all very quickly and seamlessly. That was when I knew that 果冻传媒 Tech was where I should be.”

After her initial visit with the 果冻传媒 Tech Business Office, Elue enrolled at the College, choosing to major in biological sciences. She found the College’s science program to be a great first step toward her overall goal of pursuing a career in the medical field.

“I just love the biology program here at 果冻传媒 Tech,” said Elue. “It is really hands-on, and we get to do a lot of labs. My favorite class has been microbiology with Dr. John McDowell. It was in that class that I realized that I really wanted to focus on and specialize in pathology as I continue my education.”

During her first few weeks, Elue experienced some anxiety as she transitioned to college and tried to find her footing. After her first couple of classes, she felt much more relaxed and confident about keeping up with her studies. Elue also wanted to focus on meeting new people, which she accomplished by joining the Science Club and the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society.

“PTK is amazing,” said Elue. “I got an email asking me to join, and I began attending all these different meetings and events. They really let me jump right into everything, and I worked my way up to being elected the State of 果冻传媒 President. Being a PTK member gives you all these great opportunities, and by being president, I really get to develop my leadership skills.”

Elue specifically credits working the PTK Hoops and Scoops event as one of her favorite 果冻传媒 Tech memories. She also values her time with the Science Club, which allowed her to connect and socialize with other students in her science classes.

“Overall, I would say that 果冻传媒 Tech has changed me,” said Elue. “Since starting at the College, I’ve taken on leadership roles and found that it is now easier for me to put myself out there. I am also much more comfortable being vocal about things I want to speak about.”

Elue plans to graduate from 果冻传媒 Tech in spring 2027, before transferring to a four-year college. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, Elue will enroll in medical school.

“My advice to students just starting at 果冻传媒 Tech is don’t be scared and get involved,” said Elue. “You will get so much more out of your college experience if you do. You may feel like you should just come to class and go home, but it is a short two years. So, it is important to really get the most out of that time and do something that matters to you.”
