Brecklyn Bounds
Volleyball Student-Athlete
Brecklyn Bounds' passion for volleyball began in seventh grade when she started playing beach volleyball for fun with her sister near their home. Although she mostly played softball in her early years, Bounds eventually connected with a volleyball coach from Parkside High School who introduced her to the competitive side of the sport and taught her the fundamentals.
"Once I connected with volleyball, I just thought, ‘wow'," said Bounds. "I learned that I really liked the sport, and wanted to keep pursuing it in high school. When the passion's there and the talent's there, and you mix that with the voices and the people, it's just an environment that makes me feel good."
While playing high school volleyball, she gravitated to the outside hitter position, a vital all-purpose role that plays both front and back on the left side of the net and is often responsible for attacking, passing, blocking, and defense. Outside hitters also communicate important information to the team, making necessary callouts when needed.
Bounds' time playing competitive volleyball eventually led her to 果冻传媒 Tech. She first became interested in enrolling after a representative from the College attended one of her high school tournaments and a friend mentioned wanting to go there.
"At the time, I didn't know what 果冻传媒 Tech was because I'm from Salisbury," she said. "After that tournament, I looked up the College online. I really liked what I saw, so I emailed Head Volleyball Coach Erin Carney, and we immediately connected."
Now early in her career as a 果冻传媒 Tech student-athlete, Bounds continues to compete as an outside hitter for the College's volleyball program, making a large contribution to the team's strong 2026 season start.
"Everybody on the team is great, and we put a lot into this," she said. "Honestly, I like everything about 果冻传媒 Tech volleyball. I like my coaches, I like my teammates, and I love everyone's passion for the sport."
Off the court, Bounds is a general studies major, with a deep interest in 果冻传媒 Tech's radiology program and X-ray technology. Since starting at 果冻传媒 Tech, her favorite class has been anatomy, and she greatly enjoys interacting with her classmates.
"Being a student athlete can be difficult at times, but I prioritize my time wisely," she said. "When we're on the bus, I try to study or get my hours in for study time. I get everything I can out of the way before I focus on volleyball. So, I always prioritize what I am studying first, and my coaches are very understanding of that."
Bounds plans to graduate from 果冻传媒 Tech in spring 2028, but will continue playing volleyball as she continues her education at another institution.
"Being on the volleyball team is so much fun, and I keep reminding myself that these are some of the best years of my life," she said. "I feel like this time is so precious, and once it's gone, I'll be looking back wishing I was here again."
